The Competency and Credentialing Institute (CCI) recently announced the results of their annual election. In 2010, Dawn Yost, RN, RDH, BSN, CNOR will serve as President-Elect and Pamela Gorgone, RN, BSN, CNOR will serve as Secretary/Treasurer. Also joining the Board as a Director next year is Cecil King, MS, RN, CNOR, APRN.
“As CCI grows and expands its reach within the perioperative nursing arena and beyond our leaders will be tasked with thinking in a strategic and innovative manner,” Michelle M. Byrne, RN, PhD, CNOR, current CCI President, said. “I am honored to welcome our new member and congratulate the current directors who will continue moving CCI’s priorities forward.”
Guiding CCI into the next decade at the position of President-Elect is Yost. Yost has been an active volunteer serving as a member of the Cut Score and Governance Committees, Liaison to the Test Development Committee, and most recently as the Secretary/Treasurer of the CCI Board of Directors. Yost currently serves as the Perioperative Services Manager of Nursing Operations and Sterile Processing Department at West Virginia University Hospitals in Morgantown, WV.
“I welcome the opportunity to continue to serve CCI in this officer position of leadership and I accept the challenges that the future brings,” Yost said. “I strongly believe in CCI’s mission to be a leader in competency credentialing and education that promotes safe, quality patient care.”
Gorgone, currently serving on the CCI Board as the CNOR Test Development Liaison, will assume the role of Secretary/Treasurer.
“My fellow Board members and the CCI staff are a talented and dedicated group who share in my passion for certification and competent, safe patient care,” Gorgone said. “I truly believe in the work and accomplishments of CCI and am very proud to be part of this group.”
Like Yost, Gorgone has been a dedicated volunteer to CCI serving as a member of the Governance Committee, Test Development Liaison, and a Magnet Board Representative. She works as a Staff Nurse Level III – Operating Room at Children’s Hospital in Boston.
Joining the current group of CCI leaders is Cecil King, MS, RN, CNOR, APRN, a Clinical Educator, Perioperative Services at Cape Cod Hospital in Hyannis, MA. As a CNOR-certified nurse for 18 years, King has served as an advocate for professional certification.
“I strongly believe that we have a professional obligation to attain certification,” King said. “As an educator and nursing leader I have seen firsthand the transformation that occurs when an individual achieves certification.”
King has volunteered for CCI in a variety of roles including and item writer, item reviewer, participant in test specification sessions, and member of the Research Committee. He was also a member of the task force charged with designing and implementing the new portfolio recertification process.
The new directors and officers will begin their service following the AORN Congress, March 13 – 18, 2010 in Denver. Yost will serve as President Elect through 2010 and will then serve as President through 2011.
