CCI Professional Portfolio – A New Option for CNOR Recertification
CCI is implementing a new option for recertification beginning in 2008. Candidates for CNOR recertification and former CNOR-certified nurses who want to regain their credential may submit a professional portfolio to provide the evidence necessary to maintain or reactivate their credential.
This is an important change in the recertification and reactivation process, so CCI wants to ensure that all certificants understand how the portfolio can be used.
- The portfolio is an optional method for recertification.
- It will be offered in addition to the existing continuing education and re-examination options currently available for recertification.
- The contact hours method of recertification, requiring 125 contact hours, will remain an option for recertification.
- The portfolio will replace the points method of recertification beginning in 2010 (until then, both options will be offered).
- The portfolio program will replace the existing Portfolio Program for reactivation and be the sole method to reactivate beginning in 2008.
The portfolio process requires a commitment to ongoing learning, encourages self-reflection and application of learning to practice, and provides flexible methods to maintain continuing competence. A portfolio has many uses. In addition to using it for CNOR recertification or reactivation, it is a useful tool for performance reviews, job interviews or as part of an application to an educational program. This program provides an opportunity to create a tool that is useful in many areas of your professional life.
Click here and read more about the requirements and procedures of the portfolio process on page 7 of the CCI News. We will continue to discuss the portfolio program in future communications to clarify your questions. If you have any additional questions about this process, please feel free to contact CCI headquarters at 888-257-2667 or via e-mail at info@cc-institute.org.
