Calling all Volunteers...
Do you want to help CCI write exam questions, set the pass score or conduct the job analysis? Do you have knowledge and experience that will support our organization’s strategic direction and future projects? If so, consider volunteering for a CCI committee.
By serving on a committee, you can share your experience and knowledge with the next generation of nurses while promoting our mission to support "Every Patient Every Day."
The composition of committee membership is varied to embody the many geographic regions and level of professional experience our certificants represent. We are particularly interested in ensuring that the voice of the staff nurse is represented at all levels of the organization. Chances are you are already eligible for committee service. Current CNORs may serve on the CNOR test committee and CRNFAs that have a BSN degree may volunteer for the CRNFA test committees.
In 2008, CCI will continue to implement a variety of initiatives, but two important projects are the CNOR test review and portfolio program pilot project.
If test development committees don’t fit your interests, consider being a CCI Champion. Champions are a dedicated group of nurses who encourage the professional development of their peers. They act as a central resource and role model on competency and credentialing at their workplace. Their goal is to increase competency so that every patient can experience the best care possible.
As a CCI Champion you will receive regular communication from our staff and a Champion’s toolkit full of information and resources to help you help others. Champions are a special breed—they are in it to help their peers and their patients.
To volunteer, complete the “Willingness-to-Serve” form available online at www.cc-institute.org. The deadline to submit your form is May 1, 2007. Most of the committee work will be done from January to April of 2008. The specific committee assignments vary based on the scope of work scheduled in any given year. If we don’t have a committee opportunity that fits with your skills and experience this year, we will keep your application and contact you when an opportunity becomes available.
CCI covers all travel-related expenses for coming to our organization’s headquarters in Denver, CO. Please note that if you are selected to participate in a test development committee you will be required to sign a confidentiality agreement that prohibits you from teaching or preparing CNOR test preparation materials.
If you have any questions about committees or serving in a volunteer role, please feel free to contact Nancy Lilliott, a current Board member and CRNFA Test Development Liaison. You can contact her at nlilliott@cc-institute.org.
We hope to work with you in the future.
The Public Member on CCI’s Board of Directors plays the pivotal role of representing the patients and families CNORs and CRNFAs serve. The term of the current Public Member, Connie Moser, expires at the end of Congress 2008 and CCI is soliciting nominations to fill that seat.
The Public Member is an advocate for the healthcare consumer both to the Board and in public forums. While eligible candidates understand healthcare delivery enough to champion the perspective of the consumer, they are not a registered nurse. They do, however, believe in the value of board certification and want to work to educate consumers on the quality of care board certified nurses provide.
Candidates must have a bachelor’s degree and be able to fulfill the strategic and governance-focused responsibilities of a member of the Board of Directors. They may be selected if they have experience in several of the following areas desirable for a well-balanced Board:
- Service on a national, professional committee
- Financial expertise such as budgeting, financial planning or donor fundraising
- Business
- Entrepreneurial or new business ventures
- Media or public relations
- Marketing
- Healthcare issues
The selected candidate will begin service post-Congress 2008 and will serve through Congress 2011.
For an application, visit www.cc-institute.org. Click on “Get Involved” and then click on the Willingness-to-Serve form at the bottom of the page. From there you will have an option to click on the Public Member application link, where you will complete an online form and be asked to provide information on how you will advance the mission of CCI. The deadline to submit an application is May 1st.
All completed "Willingness-to-Serve" forms are due by May 1st.
