Deadlines & Announcements
As a nurse who has attained your CRNFA you highly value certification, so if you certified or recertified in 2001, don’t miss the CRNFA recertification deadline, July 3rd, 2006. Certification provides evidence of your personal and professional commitment to patient care, denotes achievement of a practice standard, makes you more confident in your clinical abilities, and shows you are dedicated to continuing education and training.

Recertify using one of three methods available:

By contact hours: 1000 clinical practice hours and 200 contact hours, 500 clinical practice hours and 300 contact hours
By points: 1000 clinical practice hours and 400 points, 500 clinical practice hours and 500 points
By exam: 1000 clinical practice hours to recertify by exam

The CCI Web site has all the information you need to recertify.

  General information about recertification
  Process and fees
  Frequently asked questions

If you have already recertified or are not due to recertify in 2006, please disregard this note.

CCI Offers Online Management of Contact and Practice Hours

CRNFAs are required to recertify every five years using one of the methods outlined above. If you choose to recertify by contact hours, CCI offers an easy, online tool to help you record and manage them. The secure database keeps you organized and makes the recertification process manageable.

Profile of a CCI Champion

Who are the CCI Champions? They are a select and dedicated group of nurses who provide inspiration and motivation for professional development, help to expand CNOR and CRNFA certification in the workplace, and serve as a central resource within the hospital environment for competency and credentialing information. In the coming months, you will see profiles of one of our champions.  To see a profile of one of our Champions, Pamela D. Gorgone, RN, BSN, CNOR, click here. Look for profiles of other Champions in future issues of CRNFA Monthly.

Why Hire a CRNFA?

The benefits of hiring CRNFA are impressive—evidence of a practice standard, confidence in clinical abilities, commitment to continued learning and training.  You know why certification is important, but does your employer?

Earlier this year, CCI set out to educate hospital administrators on these benefits.  Based on research we conducted on the value of certification, the brochure highlights why certification is important from their perspective.  Give it to your employer or hang it in a common area where other nurses can see it.

You can download a copy of the brochure from the CCI Web site

Celebrating the CNOR and CRNFA– Every Patient Every Day

Each year, nurses celebrate their profession through “Nurse Week” and, for OR nurses, “Perioperative Nurse Week.”  Celebrating your achievement is an important step in the credentialing process.  It recognizes your success and encourages others to participate.  To help you share your success with others year round, request CCI’s new poster, Every Patient Every Day – Celebrating your CNOR/CRNFA by e-mailing info@cc-institute.org

Hang the poster in a common area and ask your peers to join you as a certified member of the nursing community.  Don’t forget Perioperative Nurse Week is November 12th – 18th, 2006.
