Champions Begin New Term

CCI thanks all of our Champions who began their new term on September 1, 2006. Champions provide a vital link to the credentialing community and medical institutions nationwide. More importantly, they also serve as mentors to their nursing colleagues. The complete list of Champions (as of September 13th) is available online.  Click here to learn how to get involved in this program.

Perioperative Nurses – “We’re there for Safe Care”

Mark your calendars for Perioperative Nurse Week 2006, November 12 – 18. This annual event celebrates your achievements, highlights current opportunities and challenges, and serves as a forum for you to share your dedication to patient safety.

To help your institution recognize this important program, hang up a copy of the “Every Patient Every Day” poster.  This small poster concisely promotes the value of certification for perioperative nurses.  You should also consider a CNOR or CRNFA pin for your colleagues.  E-mail info@cc-institute.org to order your poster.

Be sure to also visit the AORN Web site to see how you can get involved in the celebration.  Ideas range from hosting an open house in your facility to participating in a mentoring program.  Periperative Nurse Week gift items are also available. Click here to find out how you can get involved.

CCI to Launch Certificate Program for Surgical Managers

CCI will launch its first certificate program targeted to members of the health-care team that function in a management role in the operating room (OR) in 2007.

The program focuses on self-paced learning and professional development.  Each candidate receives a diagnostic assessment of their strengths and weaknesses to start the program. They also receive a roadmap, based on their customized assessment, outlining the domains and modules they should focus on most before they take the post-test and complete the program. There are six, self-paced modules that can be completed following the candidate’s own schedule.

CCI conducted a national survey of surgical managers to determine the content of the program, which will focus on the following six areas:

  1. Communication and Relationship Management
  2. Financial Management
  3. Human Resource Management
  4. Leadership
  5. Professionalism
  6. Surgical Services

Look for the launch of the new certificate program in spring 2007.  If you would like to sign up to receive updates on the program’s progress email info@cc-institute.org.

2007 Certification Oasis – A Certificant Refuge

Earlier this year, CCI hosted the inaugural “CNOR/CRNFA Oasis” for all CNORs and CRNFAs attending AORN Congress.  The Oasis served as a refuge for certificants to escape, relax and meet up with friends and colleagues.  CCI will continue to build on the success of this new feature and expand it in 2007.

The Oasis was also an opportunity to network and build a connection with the CCI leadership and staff in an informal setting.  Traditionally, CCI has hosted a reception to welcome and thank past volunteers for their participation in CCI activities.  The Oasis will take the place of that reception so that we can thank all certificants for their dedication to providing extraordinary care to every patient every day.

The Oasis Lounge will be open on Sunday, March 11 from 9:00 a.m. – 3:00 p.m. and Monday, March 12 through Wednesday, March 14 from 7:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.  We look forward to seeing you there!

Resources

Online Resources – Order your copy of the Pharmacology Reference Guide

Earlier this year, CCI launched a new reference guide focused on pharmacologic agents used in the perioperative practice setting.  Order your copy today.

The guide presents a brief overview of the more commonly administered medications, delineated by drug class, including the indications, dosing, administration guidelines, contraindications, and side effects/adverse reactions. Also included is a post test of 25 questions that can be used for new employee assessment or orientation.

You can also order the Pharmacology Pocket Guide, the companion pocket resource.  It is a condensed version of the Perioperative Pharmacology Reference Book that will list all of the drugs, indications, dosing, administration guidelines, contraindications and side effects on a singe, easy-to-read, laminated page. The size of the books makes it easy to reference while circulating in the operating room.
