Surgical Services
Beth Honkomp, RN, MSN, MBA, CNAA, BC
The surgical services management module presents information on major areas that a manager must understand and demonstrate competence in running the surgical services area. The module is based on task statements derived from a recent surgical services job analysis. The analysis suggested that the surgical services manager must demonstrate a comprehensive understanding of the environment, be cognizant of the many regulations affecting the area, understand the necessity of coordination of work processes, and use appropriate metrics to evaluate the effectiveness of the work performed.
The module is divided into four chapters about the conditions affecting the environment: regulations, compliance and reporting, coordination of work processes, and evaluation of effectiveness. The surgical services module provides several practical tools to assist the manager in gaining competency in leading in a very complex environment, such as a tool to analyze an untoward patient event, monitoring of patient safety, and an example of a perioperative dashboard.
This module is available for 1.6 continuing education contact hours.
You can order the module here.
