Journal Club Review and application of evidence-based literature
Monthly critiques of current journals and books, a list of references and resources and how-to tips for evaluating and applying research to practice — we have up-to-date research for the perioperative nursing community.

Value of Certification
The Perceived Value of Certification Tool (PVCT) is a valid, reliable instrument that measures the value of CNOR and CRNFA certification for operating room nurses. Visit Journal Club, References Section, for the published results of this research. The PVCT is the result of extensive efforts by CCI research committee members, staff, and key research experts. The American Board of Nursing Specialties, as well as other scholars have replicated PVCT findings across nursing specialties.

Certification Grand Rounds Certification making a difference in patient care
The Certification Makes a Difference application form allows you to share your certification story. Unless you are lucky enough to be part of a research study, the OR nursing community will never know of your personal examples of exceptional practice and extraordinary care. We want to know how your certification translates into improved patient care and outcomes. Fill out the form and submit it to Julie Mower at jmower@cc-institute.org or fax to 303-695-8464.

Patient Safety and Continued Competency Conference
We have collaborated with leading scholars and experts in perioperative nursing to progress towards innovative solutions to competency assessment and advancements in patient safety.

  • The CCI Think Tank 2005 focused on how we can use the latest in learning technologies and methodologies to build a bridge between competency and patient safety.
  • The CCI Think Tank 2007 again brought a group of leading nursing experts together to discuss the elements of effective continued competency methods.
  • CCI and ABNS will co-host the “Nursing Certification and Competency Summit: Building a National Resource Agenda”, Oct. 7-9, 2009, in Baltimore, MD. For more information, visit the ABNS website at http://www.nursingcertification.org.
