Kathryn Schroeter, PhD, RN, CNOR
Kathryn Schroeter, PhD, RN, CNOR has been a surgical services education coordinator at Froedtert Hospital in Milwaukee, WI since 1986. Dr. Schroeter is a member of the nursing faculty at Marquette University College of Nursing. She is the editor of the Journal of Trauma Nursing (JTN) and also edits the online publication: International Journal of Perioperative Care (IJPC). She sits on the Board of Directors for the Competency and Credentialing Institute (CCI) and the Society of Trauma Nurses (STN).
Dr. Schroeter has published articles and spoken locally, regionally, and nationally on bioethics, nursing, education, and perioperative issues. She coauthored a book entitled Practical Ethics for Nurses and Nursing Students. She is a member of AORN, ANA, STN, American Society for Bioethics and Humanities (ASBH), National Nursing Staff Development Organization (NNSDO), Midwest Nursing Research Society (MNRS) as well as Sigma Theta Tau and Phi Kappa Phi Academic honor societies. She is the member of the American Board of Nursing Specialties (ABNS) Research Committee.

Julia A. Thompson, PhD, RN, CNS, CNOR
Julia A. Thompson, PhD, RN, CNS, CNOR has been involved in healthcare for over 19 years. Her experience includes administrative director, manager, clinical provider, clinical nurse specialist, educator, researcher, and consultant. She was a perioperative nurse specialist in the AORN’s Headquarters in the Center for Nursing Practice.

Dr. Thompson is the Director of Research & Sponsored Programs, Harris County Hospital District, Houston, Texas.
She is responsible for administrative oversight for the facility’s Institutional Review Board and Federally-sponsored programs. She also serves as adjunct nursing faculty for Texas Woman’s University. Dr. Thompson holds a Doctorate of Philosophy in Nursing from Texas Woman’s University, a MS in Perioperative Nursing from The University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio, and a BSN from The University of Texas Medical Branch at Galveston.
She has attained professional recognition for published articles and research studies. She has lectured at national and local nursing seminars/workshops. Dr. Thompson’s funded research focuses on factors that influence nurses of different age groups to choose to work and stay in perioperative nursing, including the effects of the work environment.
Julia is a highly qualified, motivated and experienced nursing leader. She is focused on the challenges of developing and sharing a greater insight into nursing leadership. She is actively involved in a leadership role in professional affiliations, committees, and community activities on the local, state and national level. Dr. Thompson is the recipient of numerous awards and scholarships. She is committed to creating an environment of professional excellence in nursing.

Cecil A. King, RN, MS, CNOR
Cecil A. King is the perioperative advanced practice nurse at Sinai Hospital of Baltimore. King has served AORN at the local, state, and national levels in various elected and appointed positions, such as chapter president, committee chair, and state council president. King has been involved with the development and evolution of the Perioperative Nursing Data Set (PNDS) since the formation of the subcommittees to refine and develop the PNDS. King most recently served on AORN's Management Issues Task force that developed AORN’s Guidance and Position Statements, Creating a Patient Safety Culture. King is currently a member of the Competency & Credentialing Institute's Research Committee. He is also currently serving as a member of AORN’s Recommended Practices Committee and represents AORN/perioperative nursing to ANA’s Nursing Standards Committee.
King has numerous published articles, chapters, and research papers. He has presented numerous times in the areas of perioperative trauma, clinical ethics, infection control, moderate sedation, and his work related to the PNDS.
King is a member of Sigma Theta Tau and is the 2006 recipient of the AORN Award for Outstanding Achievement in Perioperative Academic Nursing Education.

Linda Groah, RN, MSN, CNOR, CNAA, FAAN
Ms. Groah’s career as a perioperative nurse has spanned more than 40 years. After graduating from St. Luke’s School of Nursing in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, she began work as a staff nurse in the OR. Since then, she has held many positions such as Assistant Director of Nursing Service and Nurse Executive and Chief Operating Officer at Kaiser Permanente in San Francisco. |

Linda Groah is a nursing leader who has influenced clinical and administrative nursing practice worldwide. Her work in developing financial models for surgical services is utilized internationally to link the cost and the quality of care for the surgical patient.Linda’s work in developing advanced clinical practice models for operating room nurses is consistently referred to in education, practice, and administration. In 1996-1997 Linda served as President of the Association of Operating Room Nurses. During her term she was instrumental in collaborating to explore the formation of an international organization of perioperative nurses. She also served as the first President of the AORN Foundation, raising more than $1 million in the first two years.
In 1988, she received the Award for Excellence in Perioperative Nursing recognizing her for outstanding leadership in operating room nursing. In recognition of her outstanding contributions to the profession and to health care Linda was inducted as a fellow into the American Academy of Nursing in 2000. She has published numerous articles and contributed to several textbooks.
In 2005 she received the Nursing Leadership Award for California and that was followed by the Nursing Leadership Award for the United States sponsored by Nursing Spectrum. In 2006 she was honored by the San Francisco Business Times as one of the Most Influential Women in Business.

Beth Honkomp is the Care Center Director, Surgical/Special Care Services at St. Cloud Hospital in St. Cloud, Minnesota. active volunteer in the nursing industry serving in multiple roles with the American Association of Critical Care Nurses (AACN) and Minnesota Organization of Leaders in Nursing (MOLN). At the AACN she chaired a national clinical practice committee, was a member of the nominations committee, and served as a chapter resource for Minnesota, Iowa and Nebraska. In 1993, she was asked to transition into responsibility for the perioperative areas of the St. Cloud Hospital.
In that role she is responsible for all of perioperative care, anesthesia, a 61-bed surgical care unit including surgical progressive care and a 19-bed intensive care unit. She has contributed articles to OR Manager, AACN’s Nursing Scan in Critical Care, Journal of Nursing Quality Assurance, and AACN News.

She completed her Bachelor of Science in Health Arts from the College of St. Francis, Masters of Science in Administration from Central Michigan University, and her Master of Science in Nursing from the University of Phoenix.
She is certified in perioperative nursing and nursing administration, advanced. Sherron is past president of the board of directors of the Certification Board for Perioperative Nursing where she was involved in test development. Sherron is a long-time AORN member and has made numerous presentations to national and international audiences. She has lectured and published extensively on leadership and management. She is also a member of Sigma Theta Tau.
One of her accomplishments was the development and instruction of a perioperative elective at Clayton College and State University, College of Nursing, in Morrow, GA where she served as a faculty member. She has served AORN and her nursing association in numerous capacities. Sherron received the Award for Outstanding Achievement in Perioperative Nursing Management in 1996. Sherron’s favorite career highlight is receiving the AORN Award for Excellence (AORN’s highest award) at AORN Congress in 2000. |
