The Certificate Program for Surgical Services Educators focuses on developing and refining skills that are essential to the educator role. The program is designed to enhance participants’ knowledge and ability to function in the educator role, regardless of their experience level. Applicants who successfully complete activities for all modules will receive a certificate of mastery.
Module 1: Leadership and Organizational Behaviors
At the end of this module, the participant will have the knowledge and skills to:
Develop a professional resume
Design a mission statement
Diagram the facility’s organizational structure
Module 2: Teaching/Learning Principles

Complete the designated on-line learning style inventory
Describe appropriate teaching strategy(s) based on those results

Develop a teaching outline

Module 4: Evaluations and Outcomes

Develop an evaluation tool
Write multiple choice, true/false, and short answer questions
Module 5: Staff Development

Develop the first week’s orientation plan for a new staff member
Design a competency
Module 6: Facilitation and Collaboration
At the end of this module, the participant will have the knowledge and skills to:
Draft a meeting agenda
Identify resources
Provide an example of collaborative practice
Module 7: Creating a Culture of Evidence-Based Practice
At the end of this module, the participant will have the knowledge and skills to:
Perfom a review of literature
Critique an article
Provide an example of how evidence-based practice is being promoted in the workplace
