How to Earn Points through Eligible Activities
The following is a list of Eligible Activities to recertify your CNOR by points. You may pick and choose among the seven activities. There are maximum numbers of points allowed for each activity with the exception of Academic Study, where you may earn unlimited points. You must earn a total of 300 points to recertify your CNOR credential.
A maximum of 100 points (50 contact hours) may be earned from Continuing Education activities through an approved provider.
1 contact hour = 2 points.
CME Credit
You may submit Physician Category 1 CME (continuing medical education) units to partially fulfill the continuing education requirement. Fifty percent or half of the contact hours towards points may be earned through CMEs.
1 CME credit = 1 contact hour = 2 points
A maximum of 25 CMEs = 50 points may be submitted.
Unlimited points may be earned in the Academic Study category.
The conversion rate for academic credits is:
- 1 semester hour/credit = 15 points
- 1 quarter hour = 10 points
A maximum of 150 points is allowed in the Teaching category.
Each perioperative class taught = 30 points
A maximum of 150 points may be earned in the Publishing category.
- Author chapter in perioperative book = 50 points
- Editor of perioperative book = 50 points
- Professional journal article = 25 points
- Guest editor of journal issue = 10 points
- Book review = 5 points
A maximum of 150 points may be earned in the Presentation category.
Each presentation and/or seminar must be on a different topic.
Each 60 minutes of an in-service presentation = 10 points
A maximum of 150 points is allowed in the Service as a Board or Committee Member category.
International, National or State Board Member = 30 points per year
Local or facility level = 15 points per year
A maximum of 100 points is allowed in the Precepting/Mentoring Category
Examples include mentoring and/or orienting a new employee
Maximum of four (4) different employees allowed
Each precepted employee = 25 points
