CNOR Reactivation

You can reactivate your CNOR at any time during your three-year inactive period as long as you meet the recertification requirements. You may recertify by contact hours, points, or examination (see CNOR recertification).

To reactivate your CNOR after choosing inactive status, you must meet all the recertification eligibility requirements in effect at that time within your inactive period. Inactive status does not allow the CNOR additional years to accrue contact hours. Contact hours must be accrued within a five-and-a-half-year period.

Your CNOR credential will be reactivated upon submission of a completed recertification application form and recertification fee. If you choose inactive status in 2005, the earliest you will be eligible to recertify is January 1, 2006.

For example, Jane Doe's CNOR recertification period is from January 1, 2000, through June 30, 2005, and she is due to recertify in 2005. However, she decides to go inactive on July 1, 2005. In 2006, she decides to reactive her CNOR. Her contact-hour–accrual period must now fall between January 1, 2001, and June 30, 2006.

Remaining Inactive

If you choose Inactive Status this year, you will receive a recertification application in the year 2008. At that time you can choose to remain inactive for one additional three-year cycle, or reactivate your CNOR by following the recertification policies in effect at that time.
