A. The recertification deadline is always JULY 1.
Q. What methods are available for CRNFA recertification, and what do they cost?
A. You can recertify by contact hours, by points, or by exam (each method costs the same: $425 for AORN members; $550 for nonmembers). You can also choose inactive status ($95 for AORN members; $175 for nonmembers), or if you're retired, you can choose CRNFA(E) for a one-time fee of $50.
Q. How can I take the CNOR exam to recertify if I'm stationed overseas in the military?
A. International testing (using the paper-and-pencil method) is offered overseas four times annually on a preset date.
Q. I'm due to recertify but haven't been working for the past few years. Is there any way to avoid losing my credential?
A. Yes, you can apply for CRNFA inactive status, which gives you a three-year period to meet the CRNFA recertification requirements. Find out more about applying for inactive status.
Q. How may home studies can I use for CRNFA recertification?
A. There's no limit to the number of home studies you can use for CRNFA recertification as long as they're accredited by a CCI-accepted provider.
Q. How do I know if an educational offering will be accepted for my CRNFA recertification?
A. Any education offering accredited by a CCI-accepted provider is acceptable for your CRNFA recertification.
Q. I plan to use contact hours accrued at AORN's Congress toward my recertification. Do I have to list each offering I attend separately, or can I list the total congress hours?
A. You can list the total number of hours earned for each congress you have listed on your form. However, if you are chosen for audit, you must submit the certificate received from AORN's Congress.
Q. How many contact hours do I receive for CMEs?
A. The conversion is 1 CME = 1.2 contact hours.
Q. How can I get proof I paid my CRNFA exam fee so I can be reimbursed by my employer?

Q. I heard the dates have changed for contact-hour accrual for recertification. If I can use any hours after January 1, how can I be sure I'm not using hours I used for my last recertification?
A. If you kept a copy of the contact-hour record form that you submitted with your last recertification, you can determine which contact hours you can use for your new recertification. Unfortunately, we're unable to tell you which contact hours you've already used. We trust you not to use the same hours again.

A. Although we don't review contact hours, you can call (888) 257-2667 for assistance in determining if a program is acceptable.
Q. Do I need to send in my contact-hour record form if I'm recording my contact hours in the CCI database?
A. Yes, but you can print your database record from your browser and submit the printout with your application.
Q. How do I find out how many contact hours I've earned for recertification?
