Moderate Sedation/Analgesia

In today’s managed-care environment, anesthesia providers are no longer the only practitioners administering sedation in operating and procedure rooms. The number of cases performed with moderate (conscious) sedation/analgesia administered by registered nurses has increased dramatically.

Today, RNs in operating rooms, emergency rooms, endoscopy suites, and even critical care units, administer sedative, opioid, and hypnotic agents to help patients through diagnostic and therapeutic procedures. This module has been designed for RNs and provides the basic knowledge and skills necessary for the safe and effective administration of pharmacologic agents for moderate sedation/analgesia.
