AORN is a key participant in legislative and health policy development. AORN's Department of Government Affairs identifies, monitors, and responds to public policy issues that affect operating room nursing and AORN members. It also empowers operating-room registered nurses to engage in effective efforts to shape legislative and health policy issues.

NCSBN is a not-for-profit organization whose membership comprises the boards of nursing in the fifty states, the District of Columbia, and five United States territories: American Samoa, Guam, Northern Mariana Islands, Puerto Rico, and the Virgin Islands. The organization takes the lead in advancing regulatory excellence for public protection.
