Board Bios

Michelle Byrne, RN, PhD, CNOR, serves as President and is currently a Professor of Nursing at North George College & State University in Dahlonega, Georgia. She has been a CNOR since 1993 and has over 24 years experience in Perioperative nursing.

Larry Asplin, RN, MS, CNOR, RT(R) serves as CCI Secretary/Treasurer and is currently the Clinical Director, Surgery and Central Processing, for St. Cloud Hospital in St. Cloud, Minnesota. He has been a CNOR since 1991 and has over 22 years of experience in Perioperative nursing. He currently serves as President-Elect. His previous CCI experience includes serving on the CRNFA Item Review Committee, CNOR Item Writer Committee and the Finance Committee over the past several years.

Dawn Yost, RN, RDH, BSN, CNOR, serves as Secretary/Treasurer and is a perioperative nurse clinician at West Virginia University Hospitals in Morgantown, WV. She has two bachelor of science degrees in health related fields, one in dental hygiene and the other in nursing. She has spent 32 years in healthcare and 25 years in perioperative nursing. She obtained her CNOR in 1990. Dawn is active professionally in both health fields and maintains state licensure in both fields. Her memberships in professional organizations include the Association of perioperative Nurses (AORN); American Dental Hygienists’ Association (ADHA) and National Dental Assisting Association (NDAA). She also is an active member and serves on many state and local professional association boards. She holds membership in her national honor societies in nursing, Alpha Rho Chapter of Sigma Theta Tau and in dental hygiene, Alpha Xi Chapter of Sigma Phi Alpha. Dawn has traveled extensively to Africa, Nepal, Myanmar, Honduras, Ecuador and Peru with Interplast, Inc on medical mission. Her past CCI experience includes CNOR Test Development, Item Review and Cut Score Committee, and she has served as a liaison and champion for many years.

Pamela Gorgone, RN, BSN, CNOR currently serves CCI as CNOR test development liaison. She is a perioperative staff nurse III in the main operating room at Children’s Hospital in Boston, Massachusetts. She received her BSN from the University of Connecticut and is presently a Masters candidate in the Nursing Administration program at Northeastern University, Boston, Massachusetts. She is a member of Sigma Theta Tau International, Gamma Epsilon Chapter. In addition to patient care her involvement includes: Magnet Champion, membership on the Perioperative Peer Review Committee and Evidenced Based Practice Committee, the hospital-wide Professional Advancement Committee and the hospital Nursing Legislative Action Group. Pam is a retired Army Officer having served 22 years in the Reserves. She has been a perioperative nurse for 23 years and has maintained her CNOR since 1990. Her CCI experience includes serving on the Test Item Review Committee and as a CCI Champion.

Nancy Lilliott, RN, MSN, CNOR, CRNFA, APRN-BC serves as CRNFA Test Development Liaison. She received her diploma in nursing from Chicago Wesley Memorial Hospital School of Nursing. She earned her Bachelor of Science in Nursing from California State University, Dominguez Hills and her Master of Science in Nursing from California State University, Long Beach. Her past CCI experience included serving as President, CRNFA Test Specifications, Item Writing, Form Review, and Cut Score Committees.


Joyce Cox, RN, MSN, CNOR, CRNFA, CNP, currently works as a CRNFA for an OB/Gyn group as a contracted employee and she also is employed by a general surgery practice, Steven D. Cox, MD, Inc. as a CRNFA and Adult Nurse Practitioner. She recently served as a delegate to the AORN Congress, ONA Convention and ANA House of Delegates. In addition she is the chair the Mid-Ohio District Nurses Association Legislation Committee and is a member of the ONA Health Policy Council. Her CCI experience includes serving on the following CCI committees: Item Writer’s, Item Reviewer’s, Test Specifications, Form Review, Cut Score, CRNFA Logical Job Analysis Committee and the Master’s Prepared Focus Group. Joyce has been in her current position for over 5 years. Prior to that, she was employed for 14 years with a general surgery group, Lancaster Surgical Associates, where she worked as a CNOR and CRNFA. She has 25 years of experience and has been a CNOR for 15 years and a CRNFA for 13 years.

Nancy Di Cicco, RN,MSN,CNOR, serves as the Perioperative Educator at UMass Memorial Health Care in Worcester, Massachusetts overseeing about 230 employees on 2 separate campuses for the past 13 years. She has over 35 years of Perioperative Nursing experience in every role within the operating room arena. She is a member of Sigma Theta Tau International Nursing Honor Society and a very active member of the Worcester County AORN and served in every office and on many committees as well as representing the chapter as a Congress Delegate. As a CCI Champion she promotes certification. Her CCI experience includes service on the Item Review and Job Analysis committees thus having a good understanding of the goals and the mission of CCI.

Kathryn Schroeter, RN, PhD, CNOR, is a surgical services education coordinator at Froedtert Hospital, Milwaukee, WI. She received her BSN degree from Alverno College in Milwaukee, and her MA in Bioethics from the Medical College of Wisconsin, where she is also a clinical faculty member of the Bioethics Department. She received her MS degree from the school of Education at the University of Wisconsin - Milwaukee (UWM). She received her PhD from the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee. Kathryn is a faculty member in the College of Nursing at Marquette University. She has written and presented extensively on bioethics topics. Her membership in professional organizations include; Association of periOperative Registered Nurses (AORN), American Nurses' Association (ANA), American Society for Bioethics and the Humanities (ASBH), and the National Nursing Staff Development Organization (NNSDO). In addition, she is a member of the Eta Nu chapter of Sigma Theta Tau, nursing honor society and also a member of the Phi Kappa Phi academic honor society. She is the AORN liaison to the United Network for Organ Sharing (UNOS). Her CCI experience includes service on the Research Committee as both a member and chairperson.

Drew Sones, BA, is self-employed as a solid waste consultant, assisting businesses and public institutions in reducing their waste through recycling. He also serves as a board member for a large regional hospital that places high priority on patient safety and quality care. He served on his hospital’s credentialing committee, which helped him to have insight into the seriousness of proper credentialing to ensure quality care and patient safety. Drew is active in his community serving as the Vice Chair of the Board of Directors for the local homeless shelter; President of the local Lions Club and an active member and Trustee of his local Church.
